Why is Vis favorite sailing destination

Diving

The island of Vis is the most famous and most attractive diving destination in Split sailing area. Yachtsmen who love spending their time diving and exploring the deep blue sea, when taking a pause from sailing, simply can´t stay away from Vis and its deep water beauties. The southern coast of Vis is famous for dozens of underground caves, so it´s only natural that it is a popular site for wreck diving enthusiasts. Many World War I and World War II naval battles were fought in these waters and many violent storms also sank ships. There are a handful of well-preserved wrecks here, within recreational limits. For more experience divers, it’s even possible to explore a wonderfully preserved American B-17 bomber, 216 feet beneath the water.

Stiniva cove

Stiniva cove is a natural phenomenon with an attractive and unusual appearance located on the south side of the island of Vis. The entrance to the cove from the sea is relatively small (4-5 m), so many visiting yachtsmen like to drop their anchor just outside of the entrance. When entering, yachtsmen are stunned by the site of the cove expanding into a bay with a beautiful beach where they can relax and enjoy this natural phenomenon unspoiled by human hand. This cove was probably a produced of a collapsed cave ceiling in the geologic past, and now it is one of Vis´s biggest tourist attractions because of its preserved natural beauty. Stiniva cove and bay are just like the whole island of Vis, an amazing sailing destination.
